Thames & Kosmos is a leading producer of educational toys & games, based in Providence, RI. Our products are available through toy, game, book, and school market channels around the world. The Marketing Coordinator works closely with the Director of Sales and the Marketing Manager and communicates regularly with colleagues in Germany to execute the strategies as defined by the global marketing team. The primary objective is to grow demand for our tabletop games and educational kits. This is a communications role on the marketing team, which is responsible for leading the messaging with consumers, retailers, and reps for all products. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about learning, teaching, and playing games that are fun and challenging – and who wants to share their enthusiasm with the world!

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Board Game Tutorials
•  Work with internal and external teams to create video tutorials, digital demos and other rules learning tools
•  Create useful and straightforward explanations and quick demos of all games, for internal and external use

Event Planning
•  Manage and coordinate the logistics of events, trade shows and consumer shows as needed

Organized Play & Demo Programs
•  Plan and execute local, national, and international tournaments
•  Work with existing volunteers and develop a street team to demo & teach games
•  Develop and coordinate in-store game nights at retailers

Email Marketing
• Deliver consistent, clear, and concise messaging about new releases, awards, press, and other useful information catered to each specific group: resellers, end-users, press, and internal staff
•  Maintain and grow end-user email subscriber list

Social Media
•  Build and grow our social media following on current and new platforms
•  Regularly create and maintain content on social media
•  Respond quickly and courteously to comments, reviews, and questions
•  Review and edit content created by outside PR firm

Online Marketing
•  Manage online community pages
•  Craft and create item detail pages and online storefronts
•  Create and maintain microsites
•  Assist with online store setup and maintenance

•  Create and maintain ad plans and budgets
•  Write engaging copy and work with the design team to create and deliver appropriate
graphics and design elements
•  Provide design team with product focus and taglines

•  Manage relationships with board game community including: FLGS, cafes, bars, clubs, reviewers & influencers
•  Work with outside agencies and publications to generate awareness and content of company, brands, and products

Award Programs
•  Manage the submission, tracking, and execution of awards for all products

Promotional Giveaways
•  Create ideas for new and engaging giveaways
• Liaise with the global marketing team to bring ideas to life

Sales & Distribution
•  Keep distributors abreast of new releases, stock status and marketing activities
•  Take part in marketing efforts offered by distributors, such as:
■ Distributor trade shows ■ Webinars for distributors’ sales staff and retail customers ■ Write articles for distributor magazines
•  Be a resource for sales and sales representatives to assist with game demos

Assist as needed with game development, play testing, and editing

Required skills, professional qualities and traits:

•  Ability to write highly engaging SEO marketing copy including features, benefits, product descriptions, and articles
•  Keen attention to detail in written communication; ability to proofread effectively (spelling, semantics,grammar, punctuation)
•  Refined organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and maintain an open line of communication with supervisors
•  Willingness to work outside of one’s comfort zone, making a concerted effort to improve on areas that are the most challenging
•  Ability to work on tight deadlines and switch gears when necessary
•  Excellent oral communication skills (press interviews, game demonstrations, etc.)
•  Must be able to create and work within a project or annual budget
•  Ability to create useful and lasting working relationships (with press, influencers, sales contacts, etc.)
•  Willingness to travel regularly; up to 25% of the year
•  Must be able to brainstorm ideas and craft outside the box marketing tactics for all products
•  A strong passion for tabletop gaming
•  At least 2 years experience in a marketing or communications role in the board or card game category.


•  This position is full-time and in-house in Providence, RI.
•  Salary commensurate with experience; full-time, bi-weekly payroll
