smoke from burner

I just bought the C3000 Chemistry set for my son.

The burner flame produces black smoke which is making all the test tubes black.

Is there anything I can do about this? The alocohol I am using seems fine in other wick burners.

There are a couple factors that might be affecting your results.

1. We would recommend using Ethyl Alcohol in the burner as it burns cleaner than Isopropyl.
2. Reduce the length of the wick being exposed - reduce it to approximately 1 cm.
